The story about the protracted struggle with the Seminole Indians from 1835 to 1842, which was ended by a verbal treaty between the Indians and General Grant that they should retain a section of the country unmolested. An agreement that the Indians observed to the letter, but violated by white settlers intruding into the swamps of southern Florida in the 1900s.
The author poses the question "Is there nothing left (for the Indians) but to fight and die".
The book is in very good order.
