Hepplewhites' The Cabinet Makers and Upholsterers Guide was published in 1788, 2 years after his death. Hepplewhite was a brilliant chiar maker who acknowledged the influence of others such as Adams and Gillow in his designs.
These are classic Hepplewhite chairs with serpenting top rails, vertically pierced slats adn cross railing to the legs following the straightleg Chippendale chair. (See English Furniture by Herbert Cesinsky p.360)
These chairs are in very good condition considering they are around 250 years of age. To have them fully and tastefully restored ask us for a reference to our (local) skilled restorer, Alison Parkinson.
