Ogdens Tobacco Company was formed by Thomas Ogden in 1860 when he opened a small retail shop in Parkhere, Liverpool. By the 1870s Ogden's had six factories in Liverpool.
It was lost to the American Tobacco Company in 1901, but by 1902 it was back in British hands after the formation of the Imperial Tobacco Company. Its advertising enamel signs and tobacco tins are highly sought after collectables.
Ogden's used a number of product names such as:
Battle Axe Tobacco, Guinea Gold Cigarettes, Juggler Tobacco, Red Breast Flake, Red Breast Tobacco, Robin Cigarettes, St Julian Tobacco, Walnut Plug Tobacco.
